How does a round work?
Each round consists of up to ten decisions. Swipe right to keep a photo; swipe left to request deletion, which you then confirm with Apple. For similar photos, tap the ones you want to keep, then use “Delete the rest” to delete the others.
How much does the app cost?
BilderAufräumer has been available free on the App Store since 2 November 2026, with no ads, subscriptions or in-app purchases.
I accidentally deleted a photo.
Open Recently Deleted in Apple’s Photos app. Deleted photos and videos can usually be restored within 30 days, unless you have already permanently deleted them. With iCloud Photos, deletions affect all connected devices.
Why does an Apple prompt appear when deleting?
BilderAufräumer requests deletions through Apple’s Photos system. You confirm them in the system prompt. If you cancel, nothing is counted as successfully deleted.
The app only shows a few photos.
You may have allowed only limited access. In iPhone Settings, find BilderAufräumer and open Photos to change access. On older iOS versions, the app appears directly in the settings list; on newer versions, it is under Apps.
Why are some photos missing?
Hidden photos and content from Shared Albums are not offered for tidying. Photos you have already kept do not appear again in normal rounds. In groups of similar photos, they may appear as labelled comparison photos.
Can I tidy up an iCloud Shared Photo Library?
Version 1.0 is only intended for iPhones without an iCloud Shared Photo Library set up. If you use one or set one up later, please do not use BilderAufräumer. Deleted shared photos would also be removed for the other members. The app cannot automatically detect participation or reliably exclude shared photos. A one-time notice with “Got it” appears when you start your first round; the notice remains available in Settings. Shared Albums can stay enabled; their content is not offered for tidying.
A photo takes a long time to load or does not load.
If the original is only in iCloud, it must be downloaded first. Check your internet connection and whether mobile data is allowed for Photos. Photos that cannot be loaded remain pending.
Why is the photo location missing?
A place can only be shown if the photo contains location data and Apple’s service can find a place name. If there is no connection, the location may temporarily be unavailable. The app does not request your iPhone’s current location.
Where is my progress saved?
Locally on your iPhone. If you delete the app or set up a new iPhone without a backup, progress starts again. Your photos themselves are not affected.
The daily reminder does not arrive.
Check that the reminder is enabled in the app, notifications are allowed for BilderAufräumer and no Focus mode is silencing them.
Which languages are available?
The app offers German, English and Spanish as used in Spain. You can select the language for BilderAufräumer in iPhone Settings.
